The Tenerife Weather...
Tenerife weather is certainly Tenerife's best "attraction"! Beautiful weather all year around and high temperatures are for many the main reasons why they come for holidays to Tenerife or even decide to permanently move here. So, what can be said about such a unique weather?
The first thing you should know about the climate in Tenerife is that it does changes considerably depending on your location on the Island. Tenerife in fact offers a surprising variety of micro-climatic weather zones, enabling you to almost choose your own preferred climate and temperatures.
On average:
* August is the warmest month
* South Tenerife weather is generally warmer and drier than North Tenerife's
* The valley of Orotava is generally cooler and wetter than the rest
Generally you can find the warmest and driest climate in the southern and western sides of the island. The southern coastal areas in fact enjoy the most sunshine, the least clouds and the highest temperatures. On the contrary Puerto de La Cruz, La Laguna and the Orotava Valley, which are located in the Northern part of the Island, offer cooler temperatures and a less dry weather. Here you can find a lush tropical flora with banana plantations and palm trees. Finally, if you instead climb up the “Pico del Teide”, the Spanish highest mountain, you will experience cold winds and for most part of the year you can see the snow on the volcano.
The average daily temperature in Tenerife vary slightly throughout the year and this makes Tenerife an ideal holiday destination all year around.
In Tenerife it rains but there is not a rainy season (Check the Rainfall graph on the left to have a quick comparison between Tenerife rainfall and London rainfall). Although the island lies north of the Tropic, the unique combination of both Gulf Winds and Trade Winds prevent it from mirroring its African neighbour, the Sahara desert.
Said so, TAKE CONSIDERABLE ATTENTION when you check the Tenerife weather forecast! In fact, when you do so, we recommend you pay attention on the location of the weather station. If it is located in Los Rodeos, the Northern Airport, you will most certainly get weather forecast completely different than the weather station located in Reina Sofia Airport, the Southern airport.
