Carnival in Tenerife

The traditional Carnival in Tenerife is a spectacular season of joy, which you cannot miss. The islanders proudly claim that the Carnival in Tenerife will be the best Carnival you will ever see. Well, actually, the Tenerife islanders are modest and they allow the Carnival in Rio de Janeiro to be #1, but they say that they are a very close second.

The Carnival in Tenerife was born by mixing the best elements from other carnivals and customs from around the world such as Brazil, the Caribbean, the Latin America, Spain and Africa. This mix has produced a period of explosive enthusiasm, enjoyment and excitement.

The Carnival in Tenerife includes beautiful and extravagant giant costumes, which resemble somehow the ones used in the Caribbean. These costumes are worn by shining Queen contestants.

The Carnival is celebrated in most towns across the island of Tenerife. However you will find biggest festivities in the two major cities of the island: Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Puerto de la Cruz.
